Update of Aug. 2014

Our sixth annual banquet is upon us.  I hope very much that you will support our efforts by bidding on some of our fine items for sale.  As you know we are making great progress with our effort to create a better habitat for pheasants at Poindexter and continue to create hunting experiences for the youth in our area. Come and mingle with friends, enjoy a great meal and have a good time!

The Poindexter habitat project is starting to mature.  In June of 2013 Shuett Farms graciously planted over 40 acres of nesting cover and 7 acres of food plots.  Thanks to good fall moisture and a wet spring this year, the nesting cover is coming in nicely.  Pheasant Forever and FWP have worked throughout the spring of 2014 to remove Henbane and Houndstongue from the planted areas.  The shelterbelt is fully planted and PF volunteers added wood chip mulch to the tree rows to help manage weeds and retain  soil moisture. The shelterbelt now includes 20 large juniper trees obtained through a generous Patagonia grant.  Allen Nursery supplied and planted the trees. FWP completed a boundary fence on Poindexter this spring and PF provided funds to support this project and provide effective passage for hunters and fishermen.

Our 2011 Annual Youth Hunt was a great success.  The kids bagged 35 birds.   We had 5 fields to hunt and used them all.  Volunteer turn out was an all time high and partnership appreciation goes to Karl’s Birds, Circle 3 Ranch, The Dillon Tribune and the Trap Club.  The chapter letter shares further details as well has the following headlines in our local Dillon Tribune.      Pheasant Hunt 2011
